CALLING UPON MEMBERS OF THE ASIA PACIFIC PARLIAMENTARY FORUM TO WORK TOGETHER IN FRAMING COMPARABLE INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS FOR THE PROTECTION OF PUBLIC MORALS FROM INVASIVE AND HARMFUL MATERIALS IN THE INTERNET AND OTHER FORMS OF MEDIA
Submitted by the Philippines Delegation
The Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum,
Cognizant of the awesome implications of the communications revolution and the advent of the Internet as a means of delivering information, ideas and images to any point in the world at unprecedented speed;
Eager to reap the utmost benefits from the fruits of this revolution, but mindful of its potential for the uncontrolled dissemination of pornographic and obscene materials, among others, that are ruinous to public morals, particularly among the young;
Concerned that the recent trends in certain parts of media seem to give undue emphasis on those aspects that shock and scandalize rather than on those which inform, edify or enlighten;
Calls upon all members of the APPF to work together in framing comparable international standards for the protection of public morals from invasive and harmful materials in the Internet and other forms of media.
