Resolution on Legislative Interchange among Member Countries

The Fourth General Meeting of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary:

Recalling that the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) was established on January 15, 1993 with the adoption of the Tokyo Declaration which sets out the objectives, activities guiding principles, membership participation and organization of APPF;

Noting that the fundamental principle governing inter parliamentary organizations is the promotion of active collaboration and assistance on matters of common interest among parliamentarians of the Asia-Pacific region which will contribute to the region's peace, stability and prosperity;

Mindful, of the existing diversity in the socio-political systems, stage of economic development and cultural heritage of the member countries;

Aware of the benefits derived from formulation of a uniform scheme to address common problems and interest;

Convinced that this can be achieved through legislative interchange among member countries that could be educational and enlightening;

Resolves to:

Recommend that APPF member countries establish an effective inter-parliamentary mechanism by which legislative interchange can be made as a regular activity of the APPF;

Encourage APPF Governments to consult each other on issues of common interest that can be subject of legislative interchange on a regular basis among member countries.
