REPORT
APPF TECHNOLOGICAL WORKING GROUP
Tenth Annual Meeting in Hawaii January 8, 2002
- Because of the absence of the Technology Working Group chairman country,
Peru, three countries which participated at the TWG Meeting in Chile, namely,
Australia, Thailand and Japan, called for the meeting. The participants to
the meeting were as the follows;
- Nophadol In-na, Member of Parliament, Thailand
- Bernie Ripoll, Member of Parliament, Australia
- Judy Middlebrook, Staff, Australian Delegation
- Abdullah Bin Abdul Wahab, Secretary to the Malaysian Senate
- Riduan Bin Rahmat, Assistant Secretary, Parliament of Malaysia
- Joe Volpe, Member of the House of Commons, Canada
- Hernan Iturriaga Neumann, Staff, Chile Delegation
- Alec Neill, Member of Parliament, New Zealand
- Carleen Gumapac, Board of Governors, East-West Center, U.S.
- Yasuhide Yamanouchi, Staff, Japanese Delegation
- The major topic of the meeting was the operation of the APPF website.
Related topics were;
- A permanent provider of the server is necessary considering the annual
transfer of the temporary secretariat of the APPF.
- Certain countries which have hosted the Annual Meetings have set up websites
for these meetings. The host country should be permitted to reserve those
Annual Meetings' websites in cooperation with the APPF website. This point
was raised by Chile.
- Although the Chile meeting reaffirmed that Peru continue as the
chairman of the TWG, we concluded that sending an inquiry to the Peruvian
Congress about their will to continue the mandated task is required. The TWG
drafted a Resolution for the Plenary Session's consideration to request the
Executive Committee chairman, Mr. Nakasone, to send a letter for this purpose.
- According to the Annual Meeting's Secretariat of the United States, the
Peruvian technology team accepted the contents relating to this Meeting which
had been prepared and sent from the U.S... They put those contents on their
APPF website without problems in October. The Malaysian secretariat which
will host the Annual Meeting in 2003 stated that they plan to set up their
own website for the up-coming Meeting. They also indicated their willingness
to accept the materials (Resolutions, etc.) of the Tenth Meeting in case Peru
stops the operation of the present website during 2002/3, as soon as their
website will be ready.
- We concluded that the result of the inquiry from Peru should be circulated
among the participants immediately after the Executive Committee receives
it.
- The draft was adopted at the afternoon Plenary Session as Resolution #9
which was attached to this report
- As stated in the Resolution, The Technology Working Group will coordinate
activities on technological matters until the APPF meets again in Malaysia
in 2003.
- We appreciate the support of the Annual Meeting Secretariat of the United
States.
